Frequently Asked Questions About Deinking Equipment
What is the deinking process in paper recycling?+
Deinking removes printing ink, toner, and coatings from recycled paper to produce clean fiber. The process involves pulping, chemical treatment, flotation to separate ink particles, and bleaching to restore brightness. See our detailed guide on the deinking process in the paper industry.
How does flotation deinking work?+
Air bubbles are injected into diluted pulp slurry. Ink particles attach to bubbles due to their hydrophobic nature and rise to the surface as foam. This foam is skimmed off, leaving clean fiber. Parason's Deinking Cell features an elliptical cross-section with precision injector nozzles.
What is the difference between flotation deinking and washing deinking?+
Flotation deinking removes larger ink particles (offset, flexographic, laser toner) using air bubbles. Washing deinking removes smaller particles (water-based flexo ink) through dilution and thickening cycles. Most plants use flotation as primary method.
What paper grades require deinking?+
Deinking is required for tissue paper from recycled fiber, newsprint from old newspapers, writing and printing paper from office waste, and white-top testliner from mixed waste. See tissue paper manufacturing costs for investment planning.
What is the role of the Parason Oxidative Bleach Tower (POBT)?+
The POBT holds high-consistency stock for adequate retention time, ensuring effective oxidative bleaching. It features a low-speed turbine with VFD and reduces bleaching chemical consumption. Used for writing, printing, newsprint, and high brightness grades.
What chemicals are used in the deinking process?+
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) for fiber swelling, sodium silicate for ink dispersion, surfactants/collectors for making ink hydrophobic, and fatty acid soaps for flotation assistance. Chemical selection depends on ink type and paper grade.
Can deinking be used for tissue paper production from recycled fiber?+
Yes — deinking is widely used for tissue paper production from recycled waste. Tissue grades require higher brightness, so the line includes flotation cells, washing, and the Parason Oxidative Bleach Tower (POBT).
