The Challenge

As a company renowned for prioritizing sustainability and excellence in its products, it was unhappy with the production quality of the yield of its pulp slurry. The problem seemingly originated from the stock preparation process, where the pulp was neither soft nor strong enough to produce the quality products they hoped to manufacture. This problem needed them to re-explore how they deflate the brokes in the slurry and fix their fiber refinement, distribution, and bonding processes. Moreover, they required a deflaking solution that could effectively address these issues, offer better control over their fiber properties, and ultimately reduce fiber damage.

Before partnering with Parason Machinery, Ahlstrom-Munksjö had invested in several optimization solutions in the hopes of obtaining an even pulp slurry. As simple as it sounds, unfortunately, the optimisation attempts on their existing deflakers did not produce the desired result because of their restricted control over the process parameters and inability to break down fiber bundles. For Ahlstrom-Munksjö to achieve the desired uniformity, they required a more advanced deflaking solution, thus bringing Parason Machinery into their radar.

The management at Ahlstrom-Munksjö was already aware of Parason’s equipment for excellent pulp making and their ability to deliver high-quality products. After all, Parason’s Deflakers had gained a global reputation for being high-quality, high-performance devices with minimal maintenance requirements. By mid-2019, the Parason Deflakers were shipped to Ahlstrom-Munksjö and successfully commissioned. Parason’s operational managers and professional engineers ensured the Deflakers were installed and optimized correctly to suit Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s requirements. Additionally, Parason backed the glass fiber mill with all necessary support and guidance to get the most out of their new Deflaker.

The Deflakers designed and manufactured by Parason and delivered to us in 2019 fully meet our requirements and successfully operate at our glass fiber mill.
